Category Winners
The sheer number of MLS betting sites available to US punters can make it difficult to know which one is best for you to use.
Not only have our experts tested every legal MLS sportsbook available in the US, they’ve also ranked each one on a range of categories. All you have to do is pick the one from the table below that fits in with your betting desires.

MLS Betting Sites to Avoid
Just because you come across a sportsbook for MLS soccer betting doesn’t mean you should consider it. Some MLS betting sites are not based in the US and do not hold valid licenses that allow them to accept US bettors. Our online betting reviews focus on safety, among other things, so these off shore sites can’t get our recommendation.
Using a site that isn’t licensed in the US means you have no recourse if they fail to honor a bet or if they refuse to let you withdraw. Essentially, they don’t need to follow regulation like licensed US sportsbooks do.

How to Place a Bet on MLS
The first step to betting on MLS is learning how to actually place a wager. Although it can look complicated, that could not be further from the truth.

If your state is listed in the table below, congratulations! You’re legally allowed to take part in MLS betting.
Arizona | New Jersey |
Colorado | New York |
Connecticut | Oregon |
Illinois | Pennsylvania |
Indiana | Rhode Island |
Iowa | Tennessee |
Louisiana | Virginia |
Michigan | Washington DC |
Nevada | West Virginia |
New Hampshire | Wyoming |
MLS Betting Explained
Betting on MLS certainly looks confusing because of the terminology used and the sheer volume of markets available. However, the reality is that it’s actually very simple to place MLS bets.
Once you understand how to read odds and exactly what different markets mean, you’ll be well on your way to betting on soccer and hopefully winning a few bets!
How to Read MLS Odds
Most MLS sportsbooks will display odds in the American format which makes things unclear for most new bettors. However, it’s actually much easier to understand than it appears.
Odds that have a minus (-) in front of them show you how much you need to wager to win $100. Numbers with a plus (+) tells you how much you’ll win from a $100 bet.
You don’t have to bet $100, that is just how it is displayed. You can bet any amount that your chosen MLS sportsbook lets you.

MLS Bet Types
There is a wide variety of MLS bet types available on sportsbooks so it’s important for you to understand the most popular ones.
Having knowledge of the main MLS betting markets is a great starting point, and then you can apply concepts you learn here to other markets available at US sportsbooks.
-
Moneyline
A simple bet on which team will win the game after 90 minutes. You might see this listed as ‘Match Result’ or ‘1X2’, where 1 is a home win, X is a tie, and 2 is an away win.
Moneyline selections almost always apply to only 90 minutes, so if a game goes to extra time then your wager will be settled before the additional period.
-
Total goals (over/under)
MLS betting sites will offer 2.5 goals as the typical total, and you can wager whether there will be more or fewer goals scored. There will usually be other options listed, all the way from 0.5 goals to 6.5 goals.
-
Handicap
To make the odds more favorable or to lengthen them, you can apply either a positive or negative handicap to the team you bet on. A two-way handicap, sometimes known as Asian Handicap, can result in a push whilst a three-way – aka European – cannot be pushed.
-
Player props
The most common prop is betting on a specific goalscorer in an MLS game but there are also options for players to record assists and shots on target.
-
Half betting
Just like regular betting, except selections only apply to either the first half or second half.
-
Parlays
A parlay is a single bet made up of selections from multiple games, with all legs needing to win for a successful parlay. More selections means higher returns but has less chance of landing.
MLS Futures Betting
As well as betting on individual games, MLS betting sites also offer Futures markets. These are bets that take longer periods into account such as the whole season or the playoffs.
-
MLS Cup winner
The MLS Cup is awarded to the team that wins the MLS playoffs at the end of the season.
-
Player awards
MLS gives out a variety of individual player awards and whilst you can only bet on a few, they are usually the most important ones like MVP and Golden Boot winner (most goals).
-
To make/miss playoffs
The top seven teams in each conference qualify for the MLS playoffs and you can wager on whether a team will take part in the postseason.
This is not an exhaustive list of MLS futures available but they are the most common ones to find at US sportsbooks.
MLS Betting Tips and Advice
The final step to MLS betting is actually placing wagers, and it is important that you adhere to a few basic rules that can help you on your way.
There’s no guaranteed way to win every MLS bet you place and losing is a part of sports gambling – but that doesn’t mean you can’t have success.
MLS Live Betting
Live betting adds a whole new dimension to wagering as it allows you to view odds and wager on MLS whilst a game is going on.
Betting in-play means you can watch an MLS game and see how players are playing and how teams are tactically approaching the game. That can then be used to influence your betting.
You should still research the teams before a game but stats can only tell you so much, especially as even the best MLS players have off-days.
Pros and Cons of In-Play MLS Betting
Live MLS betting carries cons as well as pros, and you should be aware of these before you begin to wager in-play.
- Watch and bet simultaneously
- Hedge pre-game bets
- React as the game happens
- Easy to lose track of money wagered
- Odds can lock frequently
MLS Betting Bonuses
US sportsbooks offer welcome bonuses that you are able to use on MLS, with most betting sites usually giving risk free bets or bonus credits when you register.
The best MLS sportsbook bonuses have favorable terms, such as upwards of $1,000 in bonus credits and just 1x wagering requirements. This allows you to wager on MLS with very little to worry about.
Wagers made with free bets and bonus credits do not include the stake in the return. So a $10 free bet placed on a market with +100 odds would return only $10, as opposed to the usual $20 if you stake with cash.
MLS Promotions for Registered Bettors
The best MLS sportsbooks in the US have promotions available that will reward you simply for wagering. It is common for betting sites to give out MLS free bets and bet boosts, the latter of which gives you increased returns on wagers.
You can usually find MLS boosts and free bets under the ‘Promotions’ tab of your chosen sportsbook, and be sure to read the key terms and conditions properly.
